Abstract:
Deep learning has great impact on biomedical engineering applications, especially in imaging, as it finally begins to work so well. However, a deep understanding is still lacking. How much can we learn from the brain? In this presentation I discuss he state-of-the-art in the fields of biological research into visual perception, neuro-mathemathical models of vision, and deep convolutional neural networks. The cross-fertilization of these fields is highly promising, as a step towards better understanding the math of deep learning, and the extremely efficient mechanisms exploited in our brain.
